I will say for the record that I am not particularly religious (not from some profound point... just I find some of the systems to exercise the expression of religious inclinations are just as broken as our politics).

At the end of the day , this county was built on nuance, not on a knuckle dragging approach to discourse. In the discussion after the Corretta Scott King funeral there were people I I think missed a vital point when they said it was not the right time or place. If the Kings followed that prudent approach, where would Black America be today. The time is now to confront not George Bush the person, but George Bush the idea. We must expect more from our leaders...Like leadership.

Yes, I am a progressive minded person. We can lead the world by example. But this will take two vital preconditions:
1. Pursue reality not rhetoric: Simply put, if you want me to buy American, build a superior product. If you want to lecture about Civil Rights and freedom, insure every votes is counted and that our court system is fair....
2. Take example from "world experts" . Look at what places like the Neterlands can teach us about using windmills to pump water, take a look at what Germany is dealing with as there are disincentives to work b/c some of the retirement systems are perhaps "overly generous". Why do we lag in math and science. Why can't we learn from Brazil's use of Ethanol.... You get the point

Much work to do It is not good enough to say we are good b/c we are American, it is not good enough to say the President is good b/c he is a Christian. Actions must speak... I continue to listen.

That last comment was mine. Not only have you articulated a new paradigm for approaching social evolution in America, you have shown the rare discipline to grapple with just those things you call Mr. Bush to begin to look at: the "fuzzy" areas. You are not just writing and repeating progressive ideas, you are taking the action of processing what has come before and illuminating new, unified ways in which we can truly work for a better society for all of us. Most importantly, you acknowledge with objectivity the history that has brought us to this point, thereby including all Americans in the paradigm for evolution, including those so many of us liberals have pointed to and called "oppressor!" I have often called America and two or three century "experiment" -- a society built upon white Pretestant patriarchy, but infused very quickly with unprecedented diversity in the modern age. When we look honestly at our history and, not as revisionists, but as creators of new opportunities for inclusion -or togetherness- in every arena of society, we start to grasp the connections that make us human, by observing the effects the former and current exclusions have on our ability to cooperate and grow as fellow humans, and fellow Americans. I hope you will continue to articulate your vision, because it is voices like yours we need.
